30 shanties gutted in Gurugram slum
More than 30 shanties were gutted in a massive fire that broke out into a local slum on Saturday afternoon near the Wazirabad village area. After blasts in many small gas cylinders, the fire spread rapidly and it took around two hours to douse the blaze.
According to a fire official, the incident took place at a slum near Wazirabad in Sector 52 on Saturday afternoon. According to eyewitnesses, the fire spread so fast that people did not even get a chance to take out their belongings from the slums. There were several explosions one after another in the mini gas cylinders kept in the slums, which made the fire even more severe. In the initial investigation into the cause of the fire, a short circuit or a fire while cooking is suspected.
The official said as soon as they received information about the fire, eight fire engines were sent to the spot from nearby stations, including those in Sector 29, Sector 37, DLF.
“The fire that broke out in the Wazirabad area near Sector 52 was extinguished in time. The cause behind the fire is not ascertained yet but more than 30 shanties were gutted in the fire,” said Naresh Kumar, official of the Sector 29 fire station.
