Sub-district attorney Sandeep Lamba said on February 4, 2020, bullion trader Govind Ram Soni was heading home with precious gold and silver jewellery after closing his shop in Punhana when he was attacked by a few unidentified persons near his house at around 6.00 pm.

The attackers fled after snatching a bag containing gold and silver jewellery from the trader. On hearing the commotion, the family and a few locals came out to find Govind Ram Soni unconscious. Soni was rushed to a private clinic, where doctors declared him dead. On the statement of the deceased’s son, Prakash Soni, an FIR was registered against unidentified persons at the Punhana police station on charges of murder and robbery, and an investigation was launched.
