45-year-old man dies after being dragged for 10 m, driver arrested
A 45-year-old homeless man was killed when he was hit by a car and dragged for about 10 m, according to the police on Saturday. The incident occurred on Wednesday around 3.25 pm near Barakhamba Radial Road on the outer circle of Connaught Place.
The driver, identified as 28-year-old Shivam Dubey, fled the scene after the accident, but was arrested the following day after the police used CCTV footage to track him down. Dubey, a native of Madhya Pradesh, had borrowed the car from a friend in Mahipalpur, South Delhi, to visit someone in Connaught Place.
While returning, Dubey’s car allegedly struck Lekhraj, who was crossing the road. The impact caused Lekhraj to become trapped under the vehicle, and Dubey reportedly continued driving, dragging him for 10 m before fleeing. Lekhraj was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
Dubey later returned the borrowed car to his friend. The police identified the car owner through CCTV footage, leading to Dubey’s arrest. The car involved in the accident has been impounded.
