With over 4,500 security personnel, the Gurugram police have made extensive arrangements to ensure a smooth and peaceful election process for the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MMC) on March 2. The elections would be conducted across 1,109 polling booths in the region.
Gurugram Police Commissioner Vikas Kumar Arora said the police would monitor all security aspects, including the prevention of criminal activity and unethical behaviour. To maintain law and order and to ensure a peaceful voting process, additional police checkpoints and special reserve units have been deployed.
“Police personnel have been assigned to ensure peaceful and fair voting, including booth duty, patrolling, flying squads, sector officers, zonal magistrates and surveillance teams. A total of 4,500 security personnel will be stationed at the 1,109 polling booths, with a particular focus on those deemed critical or located in sensitive areas,” said Arora.
In addition to regular police personnel, home guards, Special Security Forces and additional security staff will also be on duty. Night patrolling would continue in Gurugram to guarantee the security of both municipal corporations during the elections.
To further secure the process, nine inter-state and nine inter-district police checkpoints have been established to prevent outside interference. Adequate police forces have been assigned to patrolling duties and additional resources would be available with each Station House Officer (SHO). All SHOs would be present in their respective areas, overseeing the law and order situation.
“To ensure security during the elections and make our arrangements more effective, barricades have been placed on the borders with neighbouring districts and states. We have also deployed several patrolling parties, and the concerned DCPs, ACPs and SHOs will be monitoring the situation closely,” added Arora.
Since the implementation of the code of conduct, the police have carried out checks from February 4 to February 26, recovering illicit liquor worth Rs 12 lakh, narcotics valued at Rs 5.92 lakh and illegal weapons worth Rs 83,950.
