5 homeless persons die in two days due to biting cold

As Delhi reeled under severe cold wave, the police have recovered five unidentified bodies from different parts of the city in the past two days. Preliminary investigation suggests that all of them might have died due to cold. The police said no assault or injury marks were found on the bodies.

All bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations. The exact cause of the death will be ascertained once the post-mortem report comes, officials said. They were reportedly found sleeping in the open on streets.

According to the police, the body of an elderly man aged around 62-63 years was found near BSA Hospital in Rohini on December 3. He had no identification documents. A day earlier, another body was found in Rohini, Sector 23. The deceased, aged between 30 and 35 years, also had no visible injuries.

In a separate incident in North Delhi, a man’s body was found near a night shelter in Kabir Basti, Malka Ganj. The deceased, appears to be around 30 years of age, had no injury marks.

The police said inquiries are underway to establish the identities of the deceased and verify the circumstances leading to their deaths.

On December 2, an unidentified body was found near Mayur Vihar, Phase 1, with no injury marks. On the same day, another body was found near Nanak Pyau in Model Town in a similar manner.

According to the police, the bodies will be kept in mortuary for some days. If no one comes to collect the bodies, the last rites will be performed by the authorities.
