5-year-old boy travels from Bihar to Delhi with a hole in his heart; awaits treatment at AIIMS

New Delhi, November 17

While the healthcare sector is busy fighting with the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, there are many who are suffering from other ailments, including serious illnesses like cardiac issues, but are not able to attract the necessary attention to get timely relief.

Prince, a 5-year-old boy, who travelled from Bihar to Delhi to get treatment at India’s premier healthcare facility, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, for a serious heart ailment is not able to get a bed at the institute.

The little boy along with his family is waiting outside on the footpath near Gate No. 1 of AIIMS, unable to secure a bed for his serious heart disease.

Speaking to IANS, Krishna Kushwaha, Prince’s father, said, “My child has a hole in his heart. We had brought him to Delhi so that our son gets good treatment and recovers fast, but the authorities here are refusing to admit him.” “We had come here on Sunday, and since then we are trying to get him admitted, but the doctors and staff here are asking us to register online, saying our number would come in two to three months when there would be place to accomodate him,” Kushwaha added.

While Prince is one such case, there are many waiting on the footpaths around the healthcare facility to get themselves treated. The list not only includes normal patients, but also those suffering from serious ailments like heart disease, cancer etc.

At a time when the national capital is witnessing a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases, a lot of burden is falling on the healthcare facilities and institutions to accommodate patients suffering from both Covid and non-Covid ailments.

Delhi witnessed significantly low number of Covid tests on Monday at 29,821, with latest government figures recording 3,797 new cases, pushing the national capital’s total tally to 4,89,202. IANS
