Man dies as huge tree falls on vehicles in Kaklaji amid rain, daughter injured
A massive tree in the middle of a Kalkaji road uprooted and fell on vehicles crawling in rain-soaked Delhi on Thursday morning, killing a 50-year-old man while his daughter suffered a fracture, police said.
The incident, that took place around 9:50 am near B-Block, was captured on CCTV in which the huge tree, inches away from the footpath, can be seen uprooting from the road and falling on unaware commuters.
According to officials, the victims—identified as Sudhir Kumar and his 22-year-old daughter Priya—were passing through the area on a motorcycle when they were trapped under the fallen tree.
Local police, led by the Investigating Officer and Kalkaji SHO, rushed to the spot after receiving a PCR call. Senior officers including Kalkaji ACP and the area’s traffic inspector also arrived to oversee the rescue.
A JCB machine was quickly arranged to lift the heavy branches, and both victims were extricated.
They were then shifted to Safdarjung Trauma Centre by a CATS ambulance where the man died during treatment. His daughter is currently receiving treatment.
In addition, a car parked nearby suffered damage in the incident, though no occupants were inside at the time.
