With a budget of Rs 12,592 crore targeted for upgrading transportation facility in the national capital, the Delhi Government has planned to add more than 5,000 electric buses by 2026.

Aiming to achieve the tag of running the second largest fleet of electric buses, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the Budget with a total outlay of Rs 1 lakh crore in the Assembly.

The addition will be alongside the existing 2,152 electric buses - 1,752 under DTC and 400 under DIMTS-Cluster scheme.

To bolster Delhi Metro infrastructure, Rs 2,929.66 crore has been allocated for the completion of three key corridors under Phase 4 of the Delhi Metro. These corridors include Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block, Inderlok, Indraprastha and Rithala-Bawana-Narela-Nathupur (Kundli).

Construction work on these corridors is expected to commence in the financial year 2025-26. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is currently operating a 394.25 km Metro network with 289 stations. She added that 60 per cent of the work in three priority corridors of Phase-4 has already been completed.

The budget also earmarks Rs 1,000 crore for Centrally funded urban transport projects, which will be executed with financial assistance from the Government of India.

“Today, Delhi is moving rapidly towards a smart, green and sustainable public transport system. Our goal is to make transportation more convenient, pollution-free and world-class,” she said.
