6 held for forging voter ID cards
The Delhi Police have arrested six persons involved in forging voter ID cards using counterfeit documents in the Shaheen Bagh area, officials said on Monday.
The arrests were made following two separate cases registered at the Shaheen Bagh police station. According to the police, the accused used forged Aadhaar cards and electricity bills to create or modify voter ID cards.
The investigation began on December 25 when Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) Vinod Kumar of Assembly Constituency-54 (Okhla) lodged a complaint, alleging that four applications for voter ID registration and address change had been submitted using forged documents.
A similar complaint was filed on December 29, 2024, by the same officer, reporting another four applications for new voter registration based on fraudulent documents.
After investigation, the police apprehended six individuals linked to the fraud. The accused arrested were identified as Mohd Naim, a 32-year-old electrician from Shaheen Bagh, who submitted a forged electricity bill to change his voter ID address; Rizwan Ul Haq, a 30-year-old cyber café owner from Batla House, who used Photoshop to create fake electricity bills; Sabana Khatoon, a 37-year-old housewife from Shaheen Bagh, who applied for a change of address using forged documents; Rajat Srivastava, a 27-year-old cyber café operator in Jasola, who was found involved in creating multiple forged documents; Trilok Chand, a 51-year-old private tutor from Chirag Delhi, accused of collaborating with Rajat Srivastava for forgery; and Sachin Kumar, a 27-year-old employed in housekeeping at a hospital in Delhi, accused of seeking forged documents to transfer land owned by his uncle.
The police found Rajat being involved in both cases. Officials said he was accused of using PDF editing tools to create counterfeit documents for multiple individuals. The police seized a computer used for creating the forged documents during the raid.
