8 committees formed to implement Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi
Marking a significant step towards expanding healthcare access, the Department of Health and Family Welfare of the Delhi Government has rolled out the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in the national capital. Delhi is now the 35th state or Union Territory to adopt the Centre’s flagship health insurance scheme.
To ensure effective and transparent implementation, the department has constituted eight dedicated committees to oversee every stage of the process — from beneficiary enrollment to hospital empanelment and grievance redressal.
Topping the list is the State Empanelment Committee, headed by the CEO of the AB-PMJAY. It will supervise hospital registration, conduct inspections and initiate disciplinary action when necessary.
The District Empanelment Committee will look after timely hospital registrations as well as document and field verifications.
The District Implementation Committee has been tasked with generating Ayushman cards, conducting awareness campaigns and resolving beneficiary grievances.
For broader oversight, the State Grievance Redressal Committee (SGRC) will function as the final authority on complaints related to patients and hospitals.
To combat fraud, the State Anti-Fraud Cell will be responsible for formulating preventive policies and monitoring the misuse of services.
The State Claim Review Committee (CRC) will re-examine rejected claims and carry out random audits to maintain system integrity.
The State Medical Committee will support the decision-making process by reviewing Unclear Surgical Packages (USP) and offering clinical insights. Rounding off the structure, the State Appellate Authority will serve as the highest level of appeal for unresolved complaints.
The AB-PMJAY scheme provides free and cashless treatment for over 1,961 medical procedures across 27 specialties at empanelled hospitals. Health officials said the launch in Delhi was expected to significantly ease the financial burden of medical expenses for thousands of eligible residents.
The authorities emphasised that the committee-led approach will help streamline the scheme’s execution and ensure maximum benefit reaches the target population.
