80 MGD treatment plant to tackle water crisis in Chhatarpur: Verma

In a push to bridge the urban-rural gap in the national capital, Delhi’s PWD Minister Parvesh Verma on Friday undertook a detailed tour of Chhatarpur Assembly constituency to review ongoing projects and connect with residents.

Calling Chhatarpur his “family responsibility”, the Minister highlighted his personal bond with the area, where his father also served as an MP.

“Chhatarpur is not just a constituency for me, it’s a part of my life,” he said while addressing people at key stops, including Jonapur village, Maidangarhi, Neb Sarai and CDR Chowk.

The visit saw several major announcements. The Mandi Road will soon be handed over to the National Highways Authority of India for widening and upgrade to national standards, which will ease traffic woes.

To tackle water scarcity, Verma confirmed that an 80 MGD water treatment plant is coming up in Chhatarpur, sourcing raw water from Himachal Pradesh. In addition, 85 tube wells have been sanctioned and UGR connectivity projects are moving fast to strengthen local water storage and distribution.

On sanitation, the Minister said sewerage tenders had been finalised and work would begin shortly.

“Under the BJP’s leadership, rural development is not a slogan but a mission,” Verma said, adding that funds would never be a hurdle for village progress. Officials from the PWD, Delhi Jal Board and other departments joined the visit, with instructions to ensure time-bound, transparent work.
