According to the police, a call regarding the suspected abduction was received at the Bhajanpura police station around 2:50 am. The caller claimed that while he was dropping his female friend near Vijay Park in Maujpur, a group of four to five men in a car intercepted them, forcibly pulled the woman into their vehicle and drove away.
After getting information, the police immediately launched a large-scale operation. All patrolling units in the vicinity were alerted and wireless messages were sent across neighbouring districts. Multiple teams were mobilised to trace the vehicle using technical surveillance and ground intelligence, a senior police officer said.
However within hours, one of the police teams successfully located the woman. During inquiry, she told officers that she had a heated argument with the caller during the ride. In distress, she chose to leave with another group that happened to be passing by in another vehicle. The woman told them that she was not abducted and had voluntarily accepted a lift. She later returned home safely, the officer said.
The woman was taken to JPC Hospital for a medical examination and her statement was officially recorded. The police said the incident appears to have stemmed from a misunderstanding arising out of a personal disagreement. No case of kidnapping has been registered so far, and further inquiries are underway.
