The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday accused BJP leader Parvesh Verma of distributing cash to voters in the New Delhi constituency where AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal is the sitting MLA.
“Parvesh was caught red-handed distributing cash at his official residence, 20 Windsor Place. Women were brought in from different slums and colonies of the constituency, asked to fill forms featuring Parvesh Verma’s photo and were given Rs 1,100 in envelopes after submitting their voter IDs,” Delhi Chief Minister Atishi said.
The CM stated that several reporters captured the video evidence of the incident, which allegedly showed women leaving the premises with BJP pamphlets bearing photos of Parvesh Verma and other senior BJP leaders along with envelopes containing cash.
“I urge the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Delhi Police to raid Parvesh Verma’s residence. There is credible information that crores of rupees in cash are still lying there. If these agencies act now, the truth about BJP’s unethical practices will be exposed,” Atishi said.
Former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal also levelled the same allegations on Verma. “Are you helping the needy or openly buying votes?” Kejriwal wrote on X.
He revealed that during his visit to various areas in his New Delhi constituency, residents reported BJP agents openly purchasing votes. “People told me, ‘they are paying Rs 1,100 per vote.’ However, the public has assured me they will take the money but won’t vote for them,” he said.
Meanwhile, Delhi BJP vice-president Kapil Mishra said the AAP had lost its political ground in Delhi and was now playing dirty politics over the aid provided to poor women through social organisations.
“The entire AAP is objecting to the assistance provided to women through former MP Pravesh Sahib Singh’s NGO - “Rashtriya Swabhimaan” - to avoid accountability for its baseless Mahila Samman and Sanjeevani Schemes,” Mishra said.
