The tussle between the AAP and the BJP continued even on the polling day on Wednesday as both parties accused each other of alleged voter manipulation and using illegal means.
While on one hand the AAP is vying for a hat-trick, the BJP on the other is competing to make a comeback in Delhi after 27 years. The Congress, which has not been able to open its account in the past two Assembly elections, will be looking for a gain.
Amid a slow voter turnout in the morning, Rajya Sabha MP and AAP leader Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of distributing money, while Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva alleged that AAP was facilitating fake voting.
“BJP goons were distributing money at booth no. 27 in N-block near Rashtrapati Bhavan, a highly sensitive area. When I reached there, they ran away. Is this a mockery of the election process in Delhi,” Singh said in a post on X.
Replying to allegations, Sachdeva said: “We had information that people were caught casting fake votes in the Kasturba Nagar constituency. I appeal to people of Delhi to be cautious of AAP’s tactics and cast their votes in large numbers and contribute in making Delhi the developed capital of developed India.”
Raising similar allegations, AAP’s Jangpura candidate Manish Sisodia said the BJP was distributing money from a residence.
“All this is being done under the supervision of the Delhi Police and the Election Commission. If you (EC) have even a little self-respect left, then take action against these murderers of the Constitution,” he said.
Reacting to the incident, DCP South East Ravi Kumar Singh said they received a complaint from the constituency that the BJP was distributing cash.
“We went there, but the allegations could not be validated. The FST team has also responded to it. Nothing of this kind was found. The confusion was due to extra tables and it has been cleared,” he said.
However, BJP candidate from the segment Tarvinder Singh Marwah alleged that 50 goons, including bodyguards and security officials, came to their table and slapped a woman party worker.
In Kondli, AAP MLA and candidate Kuldeep Kumar alleged that promotional material was being kept openly at BJP booths and the police were not intervening. However, the police later intervened and removed the material, an officer said.
