AAP’s Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj on Sunday raised concerns about an under-construction 400-bed hospital in Greater Kailash 1, alleging that it was coming up illegally on government land without getting approvals or having basic civic infrastructure. He was campaigning in the area for AAP candidate Eeshna Gupta ahead of the upcoming MCD by-elections.
While addressing residents, Bharadwaj said the project began when the AAP was not in power. He said that despite objections from residents, the BJP-led Delhi Government and MCD had not taken action.
“All of you don’t want an illegal hospital to be built, but this hospital is being built. The fact that you had to go to court is shameful. The fact that the RWA had to collect money to go to court is also shameful. Your government is not listening, your MCD is not listening, no one is listening to you,” he said.
He added that the RWA had approached the court, but the government did not replied to the court’s queries. Residents, he said, want CM Rekha Gupta to file an affidavit declaring the construction illegal before seeking votes.
Bharadwaj said the hospital was being built without addressing issues related to water supply, traffic and land use. “You are being told that a hospital is being built, but it is being built by occupying government land. All necessary processes are being bypassed. There is no water to support such a facility. The area does not have the capacity to handle the traffic load here, yet the construction continues,” he said. “Who will tell the court that if a hospital comes up here, it will become impossible for people to live here?
