AAP complains to ECI against BJP for sharing ‘false’ video
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday claiming the BJP shared a false video on social media, showing pothole-ridden roads and misrepresenting them as being located in Delhi, when they are actually located in Faridabad, Haryana.
In its complaint letter, AAP stated, “The party (BJP) has been spreading misinformation through a false video on their social media channels, showcasing roads in Delhi in a deplorable condition. However, it has been exposed that the road featured in the video is actually located in Faridabad, Haryana.” The AAP attached screenshots of tweets posted by BJP’s Delhi handle, where the misleading video was shared, along with links to videos that debunked the claim by showing the correct location of the road.
The AAP argued that such actions constitute a “blatant violation” of the Model Code of Conduct, which prohibits the dissemination of false propaganda during the election period. The party has called on the ECI to take strict action, including the removal of the video from BJP’s social media platforms, legal prosecution under various sections of the Representation of People Act, the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Information Technology Act.
