Delhi Chief Minister Atishi along with other AAP leaders on Sunday criticised BJP candidate from Kalkaji Ramesh Bidhuri for his “roads like Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks” remarks against Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

The Delhi CM and Kalkaji MLA Atishi will once again contest from the seat against BJP’s Bidhuri and Congress candidate Alka Lamba.

Bidhuri’s video went viral on social media, following strong reactions from opposition parties. He later posted on X, “Some people are making statements on social media for political gain with a wrong perception based on a statement given by me in some context. My intention was not to insult anyone. But still if anyone has been hurt then I express my regret.”

“The BJP is anti-women, and this is well-known. But it is deeply concerning that the responsibility for Delhi’s security lies in the hands of this same BJP,” Atishi said. “Ramesh Bidhuri’s remarks reveal the mindset of the BJP. If BJP leaders, former parliamentarians and Assembly candidates hold such views about women, how can the BJP ensure the safety of women in Delhi?”

The Chief Minister added that Delhi’s electorate, particularly women, would respond decisively to such actions in the upcoming elections. “I believe that not only the people of Kalkaji but also the citizens of Delhi, especially the women, will give a fitting response to the BJP for these comments and this mindset in the upcoming elections,”

Atishi further said that such remarks degrade public discourse and reflect a larger issue of misogyny within the BJP. She called for all political parties to take a united stand against such behaviour to foster a respectful and safe environment for women.

“It is shameful that Ramesh Bidhuri has made such offensive remarks about a leader like Priyanka Gandhi,” said senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh. “What is even more disappointing is the silence of senior Congress leaders, particularly Ajay Maken and Sandeep Dikshit, who have not uttered a single word in defence of their own party’s senior leader. Their inaction raises serious questions about their priorities and suggests complicity with the BJP.”

Similarly, AAP cabinet minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “Ramesh Bidhuri has shown his true nature and made disgraceful and offensive remarks about Priyanka Gandhi. Yet, Sandeep Dikshit has failed to show the courage to stand against him. This silence is a clear indicator of the deep connections between Sandeep Dikshit and the BJP,” he remarked.

“This is not just about one party or one leader. It’s about creating a culture where women and their contributions are respected,” said Atishi. “All political parties must come together to denounce such behavior unequivocally.”

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson in a post on X wrote, “Ramesh Bidhuri’s statement regarding Priyanka Gandhi is not only shameful but also shows his disgusting mentality towards women. But what else can be expected from a man who used foul language against his fellow MP in the House and did not receive any punishment?”

“This is the real face of BJP… Will the women leaders of BJP, Women Development Minister, Nadda ji or the Prime Minister himself say anything about this bad language and thinking? In fact, the father of this anti-women language and thinking is Modi himself - who uses words like mangalsutra and mujra - so what else will his people say? An apology must be made for this poor thinking.” her post read.
