The Opposition came down heavily on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia ahead of his planned padyatra, accusing the Kejriwal-led AAP government of failing the city during the ongoing monsoon crisis.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva expressed doubt over Sisodia’s ability to address public concerns, especially given the recent monsoon-induced hardships. “The people of Delhi are stunned by the political enthusiasm shown by Sisodia since his release,” said Sachdeva.
“While Sisodia is meeting party MLAs and councillors to mobilise them for the elections, it would have been more effective if he had first questioned his fellow representatives about why basic civic maintenance in Delhi is paralysed and why corruption is rampant,” he added.
Sachdeva further claimed that both Kejriwal and Sisodia were unable to question their MLAs and councillors on issues of governance due to their reliance on these individuals for political survival.
“Wherever Sisodia will go during his padyatra, people will question him about his alleged scams, from the pathshala scam to the liquor policy scam,” Sachdeva added, warning that Sisodia will also face questions about the monsoon waterlogging crisis and the 32 deaths that have occurred due to waterlogging and electric shocks.
Meanwhile, Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav also criticised the AAP government, accusing it of neglecting the city’s civic needs in favour of political posturing. “The AAP government has learnt no lessons from its past mistakes nor has it any concern for the lives of the people and the upkeep of civic facilities,” Yadav said.
