AAP failed to curb drug trafficking in national capital: BJP’s Sachdeva
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Monday accused the previous Arvind Kejriwal-led government of failing to curb drug trafficking in the city, alleging that neither the Excise Department nor public representatives took any action against drug dealers.
In a sharp critique, Sachdeva claimed that the Kejriwal government had not arrested a single drug distributor in the last 10 years despite having a well-equipped Excise Department. He also accused the former administration of promoting alcohol consumption through its controversial excise policy.
“During Kejriwal’s tenure, rave parties flourished in Delhi and no raids were conducted by the department. The AAP government not only failed to act against drug dealers but also ignored rising drug abuse among the youth,” he said.
In contrast, Sachdeva lauded Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s proactive approach, stating that she had not only directed the excise department to crack down on drug trafficking but also personally led a public awareness campaign in her Assembly constituency. He said her efforts had led to the suspension of a SHO and another police officer for alleged inaction on drug-related issues.
“The BJP government is fully committed to eradicating drug abuse in Delhi,” Sachdeva said, calling for collective action from the public, social organisations and elected representatives to curb the sale of narcotics.
