An AAP leader said that the candidates popularity was one of key aspects for securing a seat. “The party has rewarded efficient professionals. The message was clear: hard work and performance are the parameters for getting a ticket.”
Among the expected candidates, Jitender Singh ‘Shunty’ and Surender Pal Singh Bittu who recently joined the party have been given tickets from Shahdara and Timarpur respectively. In both the seats, current MLAs Ram Niwas Goel, and Dilip Pandey have opted out of the upcoming the elections. AAP Delhi state convener Gopal Rai stated that most of the new candidates are councillors who have been actively working.
They were chosen based on their performance, as the party had been consistently gathering micro-feedback from the public in every constituency.
“Arvind Kejriwal has always emphasised a single core principle: work for the people, focus on performance, and keep delivering results. Based on public feedback and the positive performance of these councillors, the party has decided to field them as candidates,” said Rai.
The dropped MLAs include Narela MLA Sharad Chauhan, Mustafabad MLA Haji Yunus, Adarsh Nagar MLA Pawan Kumar Sharma, Madipur MLA Girish Soni and Deoli MLA Prakash Jarwal.
