AAP sets eyes on Delhi MC 2027 majority, BJP calls it politically illogical
Over two years ahead of the 2027 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has swung into campaign mode, aiming to secure a commanding majority in the civic body. In a high-level strategy meeting, senior leaders Manish Sisodia, Saurabh Bharadwaj and MCD leader of opposition Ankush Narang met the party councillors to kick off preparations.
Former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia conducted a detailed review of ward-level issues and urged councillors to stay actively connected with residents and resolve local problems promptly. “Arvind Kejriwal has introduced a new model of politics focused on work, not division,” he said. “Our task now is to take this model to every home and ensure a decisive AAP victory in the next municipal polls.”
He criticised the BJP for what he called “three months of misrule” under the so-called double-engine government. “From electricity outages and water issues to education scams, Delhiites are already feeling the impact of the BJP’s failures,” Sisodia said. “It’s time to take these facts to the people.”
Delhi state president Saurabh Bharadwaj echoed the call for public outreach, asking the councillors to “win hearts through sincere service”. He said the voters were disillusioned by the BJP’s “false promises” and looking for tangible solutions.
Ankush Narang reminded councillors of the AAP’s track record in the MCD, including resolutions to regularise 12,000 contractual workers and provide property tax relief — both of which, he claimed, remain unimplemented under the BJP’s rule. “We must take our achievements to the public and continue exposing BJP’s inaction,” he said.
In response, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva dismissed the AAP’s strategy meeting as an “attempt to keep their remaining councillors from drifting away.” He said the AAP had barely scraped through in 2022 and had since lost credibility. “Manish Sisodia and Saurabh Bharadwaj have been rejected by Delhiites. Their talk of winning 2027 is not just laughable but also politically illogical,” he said.
He also accused the AAP of neglecting the municipal body and alienating its own councillors, leading to internal rifts.
