AAP slams UP government for promoting liquor with 1+1 offer
The AAP on Wednesday slammed the Uttar Pradesh government for allegedly promoting liquor by offering a “buy one, get one free” scheme.
AAP’s Delhi state president Saurabh Bharadwaj accused the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government of encouraging alcoholism among people while remaining silent on its consequences.
Speaking at a press conference, Bharadwaj questioned “Why the Yogi government is turning people into alcoholics? Why hasn’t the government acted against liquor stores openly distributing free bottles? By their own logic, bulldozers should have been sent to these shops by now.”
He highlighted viral videos from Muzaffarnagar and Noida showing long queues outside liquor shops, with customers receiving an extra bottle for free.
AAP has demanded immediate intervention from the BJP’s Central leadership. “Is this ‘one bottle, one free’ scheme’ a directive from the Central BJP leadership? If not, why there is silence? Will they act or endorse this state-sponsored intoxication?” he asked.
“If alcohol consumption increases in UP, law and order will deteriorate. The BJP must explain why they are pushing people into alcoholism instead of governance,” said Bharadwaj.
Meanwhile, he also countered Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s claim that the AAP government left the state treasury empty. Official figures released in the Delhi Assembly revealed that Rs 2,965 crore was left in the treasury by the previous administration, he added. “The BJP government’s own budget figures expose CM Rekha Gupta’s lies,” said Bharadwaj.
