New Delhi, February 13
In what could potentially spell the end of the road for Aam Aadmi Party and Congress pre-poll alliance in Delhi, the AAP on Tuesday said it was willing to offer one seat out of seven to the grand old party.
Addressing a press conference, AAP national general secretary organisation and Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak said, “On merit basis, Congress party does not deserve even a single seat in Delhi, but keeping in mind the ‘dharma of alliance’ we are offering them one seat in Delhi. We propose Congress party to fight on 1 seat and AAP on 6 seats.”
Pathak said the AAP held two official meetings with the Congress regarding seat sharing but there was no result of these meetings.
“Other than these two official meetings, no other meeting has taken place in the last one month. We have been waiting for the next meeting, even the leaders of Congress are not aware of the next meeting. Today, I am sitting here with a heavy heart. We announced three candidates from Assam and I hope the INDIA alliance will accept them,” said Pathak.
He justified the decision of AAP stating that the Congress won zero seats in (2019) Lok Sabha elections, zero seats in Vidhan Sabha (Assembly), and just nine out of 250 seats in MCD elections.
“As per this data, Congress doesn’t deserve even one seat (to contest). However, due to alliance ‘dharma’ and keeping Congress’ honour, we propose to give them one seat, and Aam Aadmi Party will contest on six seats,” he said.
