The Delhi Police have registered an FIR against AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan and others for allegedly obstructing a Crime Branch operation in Jamia Nagar, which resulted in the escape of a wanted criminal.

Police sources confirmed that the FIR has been registered under relevant Sections 221, 132 and 121(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The incident took place when the Crime Branch launched a raid to arrest Shahbaz Khan, who was facing an attempt-to-murder charge and had been declared a proclaimed offender. According to officials, the team had successfully detained him when Amanatullah Khan intervened, questioning the arrest and insisting that the suspect was innocent.

“There was a heated exchange between the MLA and our officers. Amid the commotion, the accused managed to escape,” an official said.

Amanatullah Khan recently won the Okhla Assembly seat for the third consecutive time. He defeated BJP’s Manish Chaudhary by a margin of 23,639 votes. Khan secured 88,392 votes, while Chaudhary got 65,304.

Officials further alleged that Khan and his supporters deliberately obstructed law enforcement efforts, leading to Shahbaz Khan’s escape.

“Following the incident, a complaint was filed and legal proceedings are now underway,” the officer added.

Two Crime Branch officers were sent for a medical examination after the altercation. “There are no injuries, but a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) was conducted as a standard procedure before filing a criminal case,” a police official said.
