The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organised a nationwide protest to demand justice in the Kolkata rape and murder case on Saturday.
Protests took place across the country, with numerous students participating to voice their anger over the brutal act. The ABVP criticised the Mamata Banerjee-led government for its failure to prevent the incident and for allegedly attempting to destroy evidence.
During a demonstration at Banga Bhavan in Delhi, ABVP general secretary Yagywalkya Shukla said, “The incident at RG Kar Medical College is heart-wrenching. It is crucial to take significant measures to ensure women’s safety at their workplaces. The West Bengal Government has failed to provide security to the women. Such atrocities are increasing and Mamata must resign immediately.”
ABVP secretary Shivangi Kharwal said, “The law and order situation in West Bengal has deteriorated. Mamata seems intent on turning West Bengal into Bangladesh. The attempts to destroy evidence at the medical college and the police’s silence reveal the government’s apathy towards law and order. The government must ensure that workplaces are safe for women.”
A Delhi University student, Khushi, added, “This incident is not an isolated case from Bengal. We recall the Sandeshkhali incident. Such events keep occurring under Mamata Banerjee’s watch and she does nothing about it because the criminals seem to be under her protection.”
Another student, Sahil, said, “The Mamata government has shown no accountability in the rape and murder of a junior resident doctor, Despite the Chief Minister, Home Minister and Health Minister all being the same, there has been no effective response.”
