New Delhi, February 15
Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) unit, staged a protest on the university campus, condemning Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin and the DMK government for allegedly disrespecting the national anthem in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday night. During the demonstration, ABVP activists burned an effigy of Stalin.
Umesh Chandra Ajmeera, president of ABVP-JNU, said, “The attitude of the Tamil Nadu Government towards the national anthem is highly condemnable.”
Vikas Patel, ABVP-JNU unit secretary, demanded an apology from Stalin, urging the university and students to uphold the honour of the national anthem.
A PhD student at JNU, Ayadoure Stalin, who hails from Tamil Nadu, expressed concern over the state government’s disregard for national symbols, denouncing its decision to abstain from playing the national anthem during the Governor’s Address. He criticised the DMK’s alleged agenda of fostering secessionist sentiments.
