ABVP Student Parliament kicks off in Delhi, focuses on key national issues
The three-day Student Parliament, organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), commenced at the NDMC Convention Centre on Sunday, bringing together student leaders from across the country to deliberate on key national and regional issues.
The Tribal Students’ Parliament was held on Sunday, witnessing the participation of over 300 tribal students from 124 tribal communities across India. Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durga Das Uikey was the chief guest, while several prominent ABVP leaders, including national general secretary Virendra Singh Solanki and national vice-president Ashutosh Mandavi, also attended the event.
The discussions in the Tribal Students’ Parliament revolved around education, health, employment, language, culture and the preservation of tribal heritage. Students from Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri, Chhotanagpur, Banswada, Bastar, Gadchiroli and Nandurbar highlighted concerns related to education access and government scheme implementation.
Minister Durga Das Uikey, in his address, acknowledged ABVP’s efforts in uplifting tribal communities and emphasised the historical role of tribal leaders such as Bhagwan Birsa Munda in India’s independence movement. “Even today, anti-national forces try to mislead our tribal communities. Strengthening our cultural roots and engaging in ideological discourse is necessary to counter these challenges,” he said. A special session titled ‘Youth’s Role in Implementing Welfare Schemes’ was conducted, where IAS officer Saroj Kumar spoke on how students could actively monitor and contribute to the success of government schemes through grassroots involvement.
The Women’s Students’ Parliament will be held on March 10, aiming to empower young women leaders and enhance their ideological clarity. Discussions will focus on education, safety, health, self-reliance and women’s role in India’s development by 2047.
A nationwide survey was conducted ahead of the event to gather insights on challenges faced by female students in areas such as education, security, health and leadership opportunities. The agenda has been designed based on the survey findings. Over 250 female students, including student union leaders, NSS and NCC members, will participate in the deliberations. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijay Rahatkar will be present as chief guests, sharing their perspectives on the evolving role of women in national development.
On March 11, the Northeast Youth Parliament will focus on strengthening national unity and promoting cultural exchange between Northeast India and the rest of the country. The event aligns with the ABVP’s long-standing Students’ Experience in Inter-State Living (SEIL) programme, which promotes the vision of ‘One Nation, One People, One Culture’.
Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will attend the event as the chief guest, addressing issues related to tribal development, students’ rights and economic empowerment in the region.
