‘No redress for problems’

There’s no redress for the problems faced by Delhi’s 2 crore residents. We’ve seen 50 deaths during monsoon rains, severe waterlogging and broken roads leading to frequent accidents. — Vijender Gupta, LoP in Delhi Assembly

Speaking to mediapersons on Tuesday, Gupta emphasised that the memorandum highlights critical governance failures, including the delay in forming the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission, a paralysed administrative system and the non-presentation of 11 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports in the Delhi Assembly.

“The Kejriwal government must respond to the issues raised in the memorandum. Their failure to act is a violation of the Constitution, which has led to financial mismanagement in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi,” Gupta said.

He accused the Delhi Government of failing to convene an Assembly session for the past five months, despite the constitutional requirement to hold one within six months of the previous session. “Even when the Assembly did meet, there was no question hour. This shows the government’s complete disregard for parliamentary norms,” he added.

Gupta claimed that the administrative system in Delhi has collapsed under the weight of corruption. “There’s no redress for the problems faced by Delhi’s 2 crore residents. We’ve seen 50 deaths during the recent monsoon rains, severe waterlogging causing massive traffic jams and broken roads leading to frequent accidents,” he remarked.

The Opposition leader pointed out that under his leadership, a group of Delhi BJP MLAs had met the President to address what he called a “constitutional crisis” in the Capital.
