With the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections just days away, campaigning has reached a feverish pitch as both cultural icons and political heavyweights step into the fray.

On one side, popular Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma has thrown his star power behind the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), while on the other, Congress General Secretary Sachin Pilot has lent his political weight to the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). The high-profile endorsements have set the stage for an electrifying battle between the two leading student outfits.

Sharma, a household name in Haryana and the Delhi-NCR region, released a special song dedicated to ABVP’s presidential candidate Aryan Maan. The track, launched on social media platforms, calls on students to vote for the ABVP and “make Aryan Maan win.” The energetic lyrics celebrate the vibrancy of student politics on DU’s North Campus while praising the ABVP’s organisational strength.

Beyond the song, Sharma joined the ABVP’s campaign trail, participating in rallies and personally appealing to students. His presence drew massive crowds, with students chanting slogans and recording videos that quickly went viral. Speaking during the campaign, Sharma declared he was proud to back a youth leader like Aryan Maan and urged students to ensure his victory. ABVP leaders claimed Sharma’s youth appeal would provide their campaign with “an extra push” in the crucial final days before polling.

Meanwhile, the NSUI drew its own momentum with a high-profile visit from Pilot. Accompanied by NSUI national president Varun Choudhary and Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav, Pilot toured Miranda House, Campus Law Centre (CLC) and the Hindu College, interacting with students — energising supporters.

Interacting with the media, Pilot expressed confidence in the NSUI’s chances. “Delhi University is one of the most important universities of our country. All four NSUI candidates will surely win with the support and trust of students. DU students want change. They are aware of failures of both the Centre and the Delhi Government. They believe in our ideology and vision, and this will be reflected in the results,” he said.

NSUI leaders highlighted that the visit was part of a broader campaign strategy under Choudhary’s leadership, aimed at presenting a progressive and inclusive vision for the university. Pilot’s active participation, they argued, underscored the importance national parties attached to DU politics, which has often been viewed as a reflection of wider political trends.

Both camps are betting on star appeal to sway undecided voters, with the election day promising a high-stakes clash of ideologies and charisma.

The DUSU elections are scheduled later this week.
