Ahead of elections, Cong releases booklet targeting Delhi govt, Centre
Ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, the Congress on Wednesday launched a booklet titled “Mauka Mauka Har Baar Dhokha” to highlighting the failures and alleged misdeeds of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi and the BJP-led government at the Centre.
The booklet was unveiled by Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav, along with senior party leaders Ajay Maken and Qazi Nizamuddin, at the party office in the city.
Addressing the media, Maken, who also serves as the national treasurer of the Congress, said: “The Delhi Government and the Central Government keep blaming each other, but it is the public that is caught in the middle. These two governments have turned Delhi into a market of hatred over the past several years.”
Maken said: “During the Covid-19 pandemic, people had to wait for days to receive the bodies of their relatives. There was a severe shortage of oxygen and ICU beds in Delhi. While this was happening, the Delhi Government was spending money on building a ‘Sheeshmahal’ instead of hospitals, and the BJP Government at the Centre was focused on the Central Vista project”.
Taking a dig at former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Maken said: “He carries a Rs 2 pen in his pocket and has named his party 'Aam Aadmi,' but he lives like a king in a glasshouse.”
Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav said: “AAP has been in power in Delhi for the past 11 years, and the BJP has ruled at the Centre since 2014. The people of Delhi voted for both these governments with high hopes, but all they have received is betrayal and broken promises”.
Yadav also compared the current state of governance in Delhi with the achievements of the previous Congress government. “During the 15 years of Congress rule, we laid the foundation for a world-class city, ensuring progress for every section of society, including the poor, women, and youth,” he added.
Qazi Nizamuddin, Congress’ Delhi in-charge, emphasised that the blame game between AAP and BJP would continue, but only the Congress would work for the people. “AAP and BJP will keep playing politics, but only the Congress will focus on the real issues and work for the welfare of the people,” Nizamuddin said.
Confident of returning to power in Delhi, the Congress is contesting the elections independently. The party has already released two lists of candidates for the 70 assembly seats. On Tuesday, it unveiled its second list of 26 candidates, including Rajesh Lilothia from Seemapuri and Mukesh Sharma from Uttam Nagar.
