All entry and exit gates at the Lal Quila Metro station were reopened for passengers on Sunday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced, restoring full access on the Violet Line after temporary restrictions earlier in the week.

The move brought relief to commuters travelling between Kashmere Gate and Raja Nahar Singh, especially those headed to Old Delhi landmarks such as the Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk.

Though the station had remained shut since Monday night, the DMRC formally announced on Thursday that it would stay closed until further notice. All gates were sealed and trains skipped over the station as security agencies cordoned off the area for investigation.

The shutdown had inconvenienced daily commuters and tourists, especially during peak hours when the Old Delhi stretch sees heavy footfall. However, many passengers chose to use nearby stations —located roughly a km away — for entry and exit.

The DMRC noted that despite the closure at Lal Quila, Metro operations across the rest of the network continued without disruption.

Reiterating that overall operations remained stable, DMRC officials said passenger journeys over the past week have followed the usual pattern. “Passenger journeys in Delhi Metro are broadly being performed as per their routine pattern with no major deviations reported this week so far,” an official said.

With the reopening of the Lal Quila station, full connectivity on the Violet Line has now been restored.
