With night temperatures dipping in the capital, the National Zoological Park has begun implementing its winter management plan, introducing heating equipment, modified diets and age-specific protocols for animals. Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 8.7°C on Monday. Although the minimum temperatures have since fluctuated between 10°C and 20°C, the zoo authorities have scaled up preparations.
A structured 10-point plan has been active since November 1 and is being adjusted in line with changing weather conditions. The first set of measures includes blankets for young primates, species-wise segregation and intensified heating arrangements.
Zoo Director Sanjeet Kumar said, “A detailed species and age-specific protocol has been prepared, and the team has already started implementing it as per the intensity of the weather. Additional measures will be taken as the temperature drops further.”
Officials said monitoring will continue through the season, and measures will be expanded if colder conditions persist.
