The authorities suspect that he was suffering from depression for the last two to three years. ASI Lalit Sirohi, posted at the Usmanpur police station, was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, an official said.

A senior police officer said the ASI was living on rent at GD Colony with his wife and two children. His wife had gone to drop off children at school in the morning. Upon returning, she found him injured, lying in a pool of blood with a pistol nearby, the officer said.

“The weapon is yet to be verified,” the officer said. The police said further details would emerge after forensic examination of the spot.
