ASSEMBLY POLL 2024: Independent candidate promising civic upgrade accused of littering, public nuisance
While he is out promising civic transformation of the Millennium City, Independent candidate Naveen Goyal has been accused by his sector residents of contributing to chaos in the sector.
‘Must shift office’
This is a sector of Army veterans and other senior citizens. There is a huge litter every morning. We have been trying to reason out with him, but of no use. We understand his nature of work, but he needs to shift his political office out of the residential sector or we will have to literally take to the roads to stop him. — Rakesh Jinsi, RWA president
The residents’ welfare association (RWA) of Sector 17-A has approached the administration yet again, highlighting “the public nuisance being caused by Goyal and his political activities in the sector”. The RWA has alleged that owing to large gatherings, Goyal has been littering the sector roads and obstructing the main entrance to the sector by haphazard parking. The RWA had, prior to this, raised the parking chaos and pavement encroachment issues and Goyal had deputed a team to manage the same. Things, however, have not improved, according to the RWA.
“This is a sector of Army veterans and other senior citizens. Goyal lives right at the entrance to the sector and a majority of the time during the day, keeps the way obstructed with cars. Hundreds of people gather at his home and, thus, the presence of a large number of cars. There is a huge litter every morning. We have been trying to reason out with him, but of no use. We understand his nature of work, but he needs to shift his political office and activities out of the residential sector or we will have to literally take to the roads to stop him. I have been personally requesting him to be considerate, but of no use,” said RWA president Rakesh Jinsi.
Deputy Commissioner Gurugram Nishant Yadav said that a team would soon review the allegations and take action.
“We have repeatedly been telling all politicians to ensure that there is no nuisance or inconvenience to the residents. We will look into these allegations,” said Yadav.
Goyal remained unavailable for comments, while one of his close aides called this “a political conspiracy”.
Goyal had left the BJP earlier this month when he failed to secure a ticket from the party. Dubbed as Khattar loyalist, he left the party, saying his efforts for the city and party went unrecognised. Senior party leaders and members of the selection committee clarified that Goyal was never promised a ticket as he had a low winnability index compared to other candidates.
