New Delhi, July 10
A six-member committee consisting of members of the administration from University College of Medical Science (UCMS) and GTB Hospital will be formed to address the demands of the Resident Doctors’ Association. The development follows an attack on doctors at GTB Hospital by relatives of a patient who died on Monday.
Senior and junior residents at UCMS and GTB Hospital went on an indefinite strike on Tuesday after an assault on doctors. The patient died during surgery after giving birth to a child on Monday night, leading the attendants to attack the doctors. The doctors called off the strike after the announcement of the formation of the committee.
The doctors reported that a violent mob of 50-60 individuals stormed the doctors’ duty room at GTB Hospital with knives on Tuesday. They demanded strict action against the attackers and robust security measures in the hospital. The association also called for the arrest of all accused.
