NSUI accuses DU admn of harassment at CM’s behest

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Saturday alleged that the Delhi University administration was harassing its candidates for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, allegedly at the behest of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

NSUI national president Varun Choudhary, in a post on X, claimed that the party’s vice-presidential candidate Rahul Jhansla was detained for three hours on the pretext of an inquiry, obstructing his campaign. “DU elections give candidates only four days to campaign after nomination, yet the scared administration is wasting NSUI’s time and deliberately stopping our candidates from reaching students,” he wrote.

Choudhary also alleged that while the ABVP candidates were “openly distributing printed material despite the ban”, NSUI nominees were being “served notices and threats.” Calling the administration’s actions proof that the “RSS-BJP are rattled,” he accused DU officials of “blatantly favouring the ABVP.”

He added that such “tactics” would not deter NSUI. “Bring in the CM or the PM — DU students will give them a resounding defeat. NSUI Panel 5225 will win,” he asserted, urging students to answer through their votes.

Dismissing the charges, Harsh Attri, national media convener of the ABVP, said, “There is a clear lack of coordination within the NSUI. The central panel candidates they fielded only joined a month ago, while members who have been with the wing for six to seven years were denied tickets. Now that they realise they are likely to lose, they are resorting to unfair tactics.”
