Two held with marijuana worth Rs 5 crore at IGIA

Two passengers who arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were arrested for carrying suspected marijuana concealed in plastic bags that were kept in two trolley bags, Customs officials said.

The arrest dates back to September 12, when two Indians arrived at Terminal 3 on an Air India flight and were directed, on suspicion, to have their belongings scanned at the green channel.

Examination revealed five polythene pouches containing contraband suspected to be marijuana weighing 5.5 kg and valued at Rs 5.6 crore, an official said.

The accused had violated provisions of Section 8 of the NDPS Act, and had committed offence punishable under Sections 20, 23 and 29 of the Act.
