Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms, calling it a “courageous and farsighted decision” that will provide relief to citizens and boost Delhi’s growth.

“The PM’s initiative to simplify the tax system and make it citizen-friendly is highly commendable. This decision will not only strengthen the national economy but also give Delhi’s development a new direction,” the Chief Minister said.

Gupta noted that under the revised GST structure, essential medicines, household goods and key services will now be available at lower rates. “It feels as if Diwali has come early this year for the people of Delhi. A festive spirit is already visible across the city’s shopping areas,” she added.

According to the CM, the reforms will particularly benefit small traders, wholesale markets, startups and the wider consumer base in Delhi, one of India’s largest commercial hubs. She said lower prices will lead to higher consumption, encourage investment, and create employment opportunities.

Gupta also underlined the Delhi Government’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of reduced taxation reached consumers through market monitoring and awareness campaigns.

Gupta linked the GST reforms to the PM’s larger call for a self-reliant India, noting that the Delhi Government is actively promoting green manufacturing, the IT sector, and small-scale industries. Policies are also being implemented to attract investment, modernise infrastructure, and improve ease of doing business, she added.

The announcement, she claimed, has already begun to make a positive impact. “From Monday, both large and small markets will be immersed in celebration,” Gupta said.

To mark the occasion, the Chief Minister will participate in a “GST Savings Festival” with traders and shopkeepers at Totaram Market in Tri Nagar on Monday.
