Jamia bags dual recognition at India Research Excellence Citation Awards
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has secured dual honours at the prestigious India Research Excellence Citation Awards 2025 organised by Clarivate (Web of Science).
In the individual category, Khalid Raza, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science, was awarded for research excellence in interdisciplinary sciences. He was recognised for his pioneering contributions to artificial intelligence, computational biology, drug discovery and AI-driven biomedical research.
His work has played a crucial role in advancing the integration of machine learning and bioinformatics, paving the way for breakthroughs in genetics, genomics and precision medicine.
In the institutional category, the JMI received the award for research excellence in natural sciences, acknowledging the university’s significant research contributions in the field and its standing as a hub of innovation and scientific inquiry nationally and globally.
Prof Mazhar Asif, Vice-Chancellor, JMI, said, “This dual recognition not only highlights the outstanding work being done at here but also reaffirms our commitment to fostering a strong research culture. On behalf of the entire university, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Raza and to all our faculty members whose collective contributions have brought this honour to Jamia.”
Prof Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, JMI, added, “This achievement is a testament to the dedication, creativity and hard work of our researchers across disciplines. Raza’s recognition exemplifies the excellence we strive for in every department, while the institutional award reflects the shared efforts of our academic community, especially from natural sciences.”
The India Research Excellence Citation Awards presented biennially since 2004 celebrate pioneering contributions to research across India. Recipients are chosen by an expert panel at the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) through a combination of bibliometric analysis and qualitative review, using data from the Web of Science Core Collection and InCites Benchmarking and Analytics. The 2025 awards assessed publication output from 2019 to 2024.
Marking the 10th anniversary of the awards, this year’s edition honoured nine individuals and eleven institutions nationwide. With its dual recognition, JMI has further cemented its position among India’s leading research universities committed to advancing discovery, innovation and global collaboration, a university offical said.
