Badshahpur BJP candidate seeks to rebuild voters’ trust amid civic anger
With nearly two lakh urban voters, most of whom reside in high-rise societies, emerging as the most disgruntled group in Haryana, BJP candidate from Badshahpur, Rao Narbir Singh, has urged them to set aside the last five years of the state government and place their trust in ‘Narbir ki Guarantee’.
In an exclusive conversation with The Tribune, Narbir acknowledged, “People are really upset with the BJP government over the last five years and have lost faith.”
Judge me by what was done for this segment from 2014-2019, not by what happened in the last five years. I agree that you have faced the worst, but it’s over now. Regardless of the outcome, if Rao Narbir is in the Vidhan Sabha, you will have every civic facility you deserve. — Rao Narbir Singh, BJP candidate
“The situation is dire — people are frustrated and very angry. They are threatening to boycott the elections, claiming that pleading for five long years has yielded nothing. I was shocked to see craters, overflowing sewage and residents of multi-crore flats deprived of water and power supply for days. I have asked them to remember what it was like when I was the MLA here and to trust in me and Modi ji,” said Narbir. He urged people to vote for him, highlighting projects like the Badshahpur elevated highway and Gurugram University as achievements.
Rao Narbir, former minister in the Khattar-led BJP government from 2014 to 2019, has emerged as one of the most confident BJP leaders in Haryana and is contesting from the state’s largest constituency, Badshahpur. Narbir openly declared that candidates would be more important than the party in this election and managed to secure a ticket despite strong resistance from the Rao Inderjit camp. Although many residents have announced a boycott of the elections, Narbir began his campaign by visiting them and asking them to trust in “Narbir ki Guarantee”.
“Judge me by what was done for this segment from 2014-2019, not by what happened in the last five years. I agree that you have faced the worst, but it’s over now. Regardless of the outcome, if Rao Narbir is in the Vidhan Sabha, you will have every civic facility you deserve. No one will have to beg for roads, water, or sanitation,” Narbir told voters as he visited high-rise societies like Sispal Vihar, Park View, Eldeco, Wembley Estate, N Block, Fresco, Escape Society and Omaxe Nile.
Residents have questioned Narbir about why the city has turned into a “Kudagram” and “Gaddhagram”.
“Look around us — we are in a state of civic collapse, and we’ve made it clear that any BJP leader visiting here better come with an explanation for this. We want political leaders to present us with solutions, if any,” said a resident representative.
Badshahpur has over 5 lakh voters, the highest in the state, and includes the largest number of high-rise societies among state Assembly segments.
