Addressing the gathering, Murmu said energy conservation is the most environment-friendly and reliable way to achieve energy efficiency and has become a key requirement of the present time.

She said conserving energy did not mean using less power, but using it wisely and efficiently. Steps such as avoiding unnecessary use of electrical appliances, adopting energy-efficient devices, using natural light and ventilation and shifting to solar and renewable energy options help reduce carbon emissions, Murmu said.

She said awareness among the youth and children could help the country meet its energy conservation goals and support sustainable development. The President added that access to affordable and clean energy strengthened communities, supported local economies and created opportunities for growth.

Referring to government initiatives such as the “Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and the National Green Hydrogen Mission”, Murmu said they were reducing India’s dependence on fossil fuels.

She said the government is promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency through measures such as the Renewable Consumption Obligation and Production Linked Incentive schemes.

According to the President, India’s energy efficiency efforts in 2023-24 resulted in energy savings of 53.60 million tonnes of oil equivalent, leading to savings and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

Murmu said the idea of a balanced lifestyle in harmony with nature was reflected in the message of “Lifestyle for Environment – LiFE” and appreciated all stakeholders working on energy conservation.
