Bharat Mandap among top five attractions at Osaka World Expo

India’s cultural and technological prowess is making waves on the global stage as the Bharat Mandap at the ongoing World Expo-2025 in Osaka, Japan, has been ranked among the top five pavilions. The pavilion, curated by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) under the Ministry of Culture, has earned widespread acclaim alongside those of the United States, Italy, Japan and France.

The ranking, based on feedback from expo officials, visitors and Japanese social media users, was highlighted by Yamamoto-san, deputy pavilion director and representative of the Japan Travel Bureau (JTB).

Unlike previous editions where the Ministry of Commerce led the India pavilion, this year marks a shift, with the Ministry of Culture taking charge and assigning the IGNCA to lead curation. The result is a unique blend of India’s ancient civilisational heritage and modern aspirations, showcased across an expansive and interactive pavilion space located in the Expo’s ‘Connecting Lives Zone’.

Sachchidanand Joshi, member secretary, IGNCA, said the Pavilion had become a cultural destination in its own right. “It is not just a structure but a living experience where tradition flows into innovation,” he said.

The Bharat Mandap encapsulates India’s journey from its philosophical roots to its technological rise, with sections dedicated to Ayurveda, ISRO, sustainable development and innovation.
