BJP accuses AAP of betraying women with Rs1,000 promise
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva has accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal of deceiving women in Delhi and Punjab with the unfulfilled promise of the Mahila Samman Bhatta, an allowance of Rs 1,000 per woman. Sachdeva claimed that Kejriwal used these false promises to gain votes in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, the 2022 Delhi Municipal Corporation elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but failed to deliver on them. “Women in both states are now asking why Kejriwal betrayed them,” he said.
In the 2024-25 budget, Kejriwal’s then-Finance Minister Atishi had announced the Mahila Samman Bhatta scheme, but Sachdeva pointed out that not a single rupee was disbursed. He claimed that the unfulfilled promise contributed to AAP’s heavy defeat in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.
A similar situation occurred in Punjab, where Kejriwal had made the same promise before the 2022 Assembly elections, only to fail in implementing it, leaving women voters disillusioned.
Sachdeva further assured that the newly-formed BJP government in Delhi would honour its commitment through the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, which is expected to be included in the 2025-26 Delhi Budget. He added that once the BJP government fulfils its promise, it will expose AAP’s false assurances in Punjab.
Additionally, Sachdeva accused Kejriwal of trying to deflect attention by making controversial statements through Atishi and other AAP leaders about the Delhi BJP’s scheme. “Kejriwal knows his credibility is at stake. He is now trying to distract people, but the women of Delhi and Punjab will not be misled again,” Sachdeva stated.
