New Delhi, July 8

In a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Monday accused Education Minister Atishi and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia of severely damaging the city’s school education system.

‘No recruitment’

Sisodia and Atishi have not recruited regular or guest teachers and have diverted teachers to non-teaching duties, leading to a critical shortage of educators in our schools. — Virendra Sachdeva, Delhi BJP president

‘Lowered standard’

The AAP govt has not only lowered the standard of education in government schools, it has also indulged in corruption in the construction of classrooms. — Devender Yadav, DPCC Chief

Sachdeva highlighted various issues, including the non-recruitment of teachers and the diversion of existing teachers to non-teaching duties, resulting in one of the worst teacher-student ratios in government schools.

“Sisodia and Atishi have not recruited regular or guest teachers and have diverted teachers to non-teaching duties, leading to a critical shortage of educators in our schools,” said Sachdeva. “The Kejriwal government has failed to address the need for around 62,000 teachers, with only about 43,000 teachers currently employed alongside 13,000 guest teachers. The Sisodia-Atishi duo has even removed 5,000 teachers from teaching duties,” he added.

He also criticised the Kejriwal government’s allocation of teachers to roles such as school mentors, school coordinators, and teacher development coordinators, which he claimed detracts from their primary teaching responsibilities. “The misuse of teachers for clerical duties and as legal assistants further exacerbates the situation,” he added.

Furthermore, Sachdeva condemned the government’s Business Blaster scheme, which provides small amounts of money to students to develop business ideas. He argued that the scheme’s real purpose is to influence young voters with cash handouts.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav also criticised the AAP government, accusing it of administrative incompetence and political drama.

“Due to the ongoing power struggle between the AAP and BJP, the administration in Delhi has been severely disrupted,” Yadav said. “Atishi’s apparent lack of knowledge about the mass transfer of teachers in her department underscores the administrative chaos. The Kejriwal government has failed to address the core issues affecting our schools, resulting in lakhs of children leaving government schools for private institutions,” he added.

Yadav pointed out that during the Congress administration, the transfer of teachers was a routine procedure that did not lead to political turmoil. He stressed that the Congress government focused on improving the quality of education and school infrastructure, a priority that the current administration has neglected.
