New Delhi, January 17

In a bid to raise awareness under the ‘Ghar bachao, BJP hatao’ (Save home, remove BJP) campaign, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) conducted an extensive drive targeting residents in the slums of the Wazirpur industrial area on Wednesday.

AAP MLAs Dilip Pandey and Rajesh Gupta engaged with the slum dwellers, shedding light on what they alleged to be the BJP-led Central Government’s conspiracies against the marginalised.

The campaign’s focal point is exposing the Central Government’s intentions to allegedly make the poor homeless by demolishing slums.

“Despite Central Government’s orders, as long as AAP and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal are in power, slum demolitions won’t occur,” Pandey said. He criticised the BJP for forgetting its poll promise to provide housing for slum dwellers.

Recent developments cited by Pandey included a meeting between the Prime Minister’s secretary and various departments, instructing entities like the Railways, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and Land and Development Office (LNDO) to remove slums within Delhi.

He accused the BJP of deploying heavy police forces to forcibly evict people in Tughlakabad before elections and initiating efforts to remove slums around Safdarjung Railway.

Pandey emphasised the BJP’s alleged disdain for those living in slums, stating: “The BJP hates those living in ‘Jhuggis’. The Modi government feels ashamed of people residing in slums.” He criticised the government’s actions during the G20 summit, claiming that slums in Delhi were covered to hide them.

Pandey condemned the plan to demolish slums in severe cold conditions. He said that no government had the right to take away people’s homes, especially in such circumstances.

Echoing these sentiments, Gupta highlighted the BJP’s unfulfilled promises of providing permanent housing for slum residents. He alleged that the BJP wants to displace those who vote for AAP.

Gupta recalled instances where toilets built by the Delhi Government for slum dwellers were demolished by the BJP, illustrating what he deemed as the government’s insensitivity towards basic amenities.
