BJP govt clears Ayushman Bharat scheme at first Delhi cabinet meeting
The Delhi cabinet headed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday approved the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Gupta, at her first press conference after chairing the cabinet meeting, said they discussed and passed two agenda -- to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi and to table 14 CAG reports in the first sitting of the Assembly.
To provide medical care to the people of Delhi, the BJP in its manifesto had promised them to implement the central government's Ayushman Bharat Yojana to provide free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh, with the state government providing an additional Rs 5 lakh cover for all low-income households.
As per the BJP's manifesto, the senior citizens who have attained the age of 70 will receive free OPD and diagnostic services, as well as free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh.
Similarly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his poll rallies had promised tough action against corruption once the BJP-led government was formed in Delhi.
Two CAG reports last month were widely reported by the media which put the AAP on the back foot before the Delhi Assembly polls. Both the CAG reports were critical of the AAP government for its expenses on the CM house renovation project and rendering a loss of Rs 2,000 crore to the state exchequer for implementing the new excise policy in 2021-22.
Responding to a question on the Ayushman scheme, Gupta said the category for the scheme is precise and would be availed by those who fell under that category.
"We will give you details. We will have to sign an MoU with the Centre. Today, we have cleared the formalities. The AAP government had moved court against the scheme for which we have started proceedings to take it back. Once those proceedings are over, we will bring the scheme into the public domain," Gupta said.
Speaking on the Mahila Samman Yojana, under which the BJP had promised a monthly assistance of Rs 2,500 to every woman, the CM said they discussed the scheme. “A lot of things need to be finalised. We need to discuss more on it at the next meeting," she said.
