Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Devender Yadav has raised serious concerns over the inadequate facilities and lack of preparedness in government hospitals to handle a surge in heatwave patients in the Capital.

Accusing the BJP-led administration under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of failing to improve the health infrastructure, Yadav said the condition of government hospitals remains pitiable despite temperatures reaching 45 degrees Celsius.

Yadav criticised the BJP government for boasting of elaborate arrangements to treat heatwave patients, calling these claims hollow as patients are forced to wait for hours without access to even basic amenities. He highlighted that most heat wave victims come from economically vulnerable groups such as rickshaw pullers, auto drivers, street vendors, construction workers and labourers who rely solely on government hospitals for treatment.

“The health infrastructure has deteriorated due to the government’s failure to act,” Yadav said.

Accusing the BJP government of pushing the health sector “from ICU to ventilator” over the last 100 days, Yadav accused the Rekha Gupta administration of making empty promises that have not translated into meaningful action on the ground.

He pointed out severe shortage of medical equipment, staff, essential medicines and even basic seating arrangements for patients waiting for their turn. The situation is compounded by the lack of drinking water for waiting patients, many of whom are left standing outside hospital premises.
