BJP leader among 4 die in separate mishaps in Capital

Nainwal slips into Yamuna while feeding fish, fire tender on way to rescue him kills biker

Four people, including BJP leader Kuldeep Nainwal, who accidentally drowned in the Yamuna while feeding fish, and a motorist, who was hit by a fire fender that was en route to rescue Nainwal, lost their lives in separate incidents in the city, officials said on Saturday.

In the first incident, former BJP Karawal Nagar Mandal President Kuldeep Nainwal (47) drowned in the Yamuna in Sonia Vihar, northeast Delhi, on Saturday morning.

According to the police, Nainwal offered prayers at a Shani temple here earlier in the morning before heading to feed fish in the river.

Eyewitnesses said Nainwal slipped and fell into deep water. They raised alarm, but by the time help arrived, it was too late.

A rescue operation was launched to trace the missing leader. Around 2:30 pm, Nainwal’s body was recovered from the river. It was sent to a mortuary for post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, a fire tender, which was rushing to rescue the BJP leader, collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the rider.

The police said the accident took place around 8:15 am near Chauhan Patti, Pushta Road. The biker was identified as Rohit Pal (18), a resident of 5th Pushta, Sonia Vihar. He was taken to JPC Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The driver of the fire tender spotted a speeding motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. In order to avoid a head-on collision, the driver swerved left, hitting the Pushta wall. However, the biker still collided with the fire tender.

A case under Sections 279 and 106 of the BNS has been registered at Sonia Vihar police station.

Dumper driver killed in road accident

A 40-year-old man died after his dumper truck rammed into another stationary dumper on the main Sarita Vihar-Kalindi Kunj road on Saturday morning.

The police said they received a PCR call regarding the accident at 6:06 am near the Living Style Mall foot overbridge. When the police reached the spot, they found that dumper truck had collided from behind with a stationary dumper.

The driver, identified as Hanif Ali, a resident of Ratua village in Auraiya district, Uttar Pradesh, was trapped inside his vehicle.

With assistance from residents, he was rescued and rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. However, doctors declared him dead or arrival at 7:55 am.

Enquiry revealed that the dumper was parked without any warning signs, barricades or blinkers, leading to the collision.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS at the Sarita Vihar police station. The driver of the stationary dumper is yet to be arrested.

Accident victim succumbs to injuries

A 20-year-old youth, who suffered injuries after a truck overturned in Rohini on Friday, died on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Anmol.

The police said the truck driver was allegedly driving the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner. Preliminary inquiry indicated that he was under the influence of alcohol.
