BJP leaders demand accountability over CAG report on Delhi’s excise policy
BJP leaders in Delhi have strongly criticised the former AAP-led Delhi government’s excise policy following the release of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report in the Delhi Assembly. The report allegedly exposes widespread irregularities in the policy, with accusations of corruption and mismanagement.
Virendra Sachdeva, the Delhi BJP president, called on Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and other key figures in the Delhi Government to respond to the findings. “The public of Delhi was waiting for the CAG report to know how Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia were involved in corruption under the excise policy,” Sachdeva stated.
According to Sachdeva, the report highlights that the new excise policy lacked transparency and fairness, ultimately benefiting the liquor mafia. “Monopolies were created, causing losses worth thousands of crores to the government, while liquor prices were manipulated to exploit the common people.”
BJP’s criticism also targeted AAP MP Sanjay Singh, who was recently released on bail in connection with the liquor scam. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari accused Kejriwal and his government of obstructing the release of the CAG report, alleging that Kejriwal is directly involved in the scandal, which has caused a loss of over Rs 2,000 crore.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal expressed concerns over the long-term implications of the excise policy. “Due to this cartelisation, the risk of counterfeit liquor in Delhi has increased significantly. Where there is no competition, vendors can manipulate the market and sell substandard liquor.”
The CAG report, which was tabled in the Delhi Assembly, highlights lapses in the Excise Department’s handling of liquor policy, resulting in losses of over Rs 2,000 crore.
