BJP MP from South Delhi, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, has strongly criticised the Kejriwal government for its alleged attempts to displace over 1,000 families residing in South Delhi’s Rajokari area. Bidhuri claimed that these families, who have been living in the area for the past 50-60 years, were being unfairly targeted by the AAP government.

“These families have been here for generations, yet the government is trying to displace them under the pretext that the land belongs to the Delhi Forest Department,” said Bidhuri. He noted that on Raksha Bandhan, officials from the Forest Department, accompanied by a heavy posse of police personnel, arrived in Rajokari to start the eviction process.

“On the one hand, the AAP government claims they do not destroy people’s livelihoods, but on the other hand, they are making a vicious move to ruin these families who have been here for four generations,” he added.

Bidhuri also questioned Delhi’s Forest Minister Gopal Rai’s role in the eviction order. “Forest Minister Gopal Rai needs to explain why he ordered the displacement of these people,” Bidhuri said. He emphasised that according to the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) Act, these families cannot be displaced without being provided with an alternative living arrangement. “If relocation is mandatory, it should only be done with the consensus of the people, and they must be given a suitable alternative place to live,” he stated.

Bidhuri assured the residents that he would stand by them in their fight to stay in Rajokari.
